Gonçalo S. Faria
I am a PhD student at the School of Biology, University of St. Andrews, funded by FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) PhD programme. My research interests within biology are evolution and animal behaviour (including humans). Specifically, I am interested in understanding how behaviours evolve and why. Do they provide an advantage to the individual when interacting with others? Why does an individual make a particular choice and not another? How are individuals affected by their social environment? My approach to these questions is purely theoretical, using mathematical analyses and computer simulations to contribute with a theoretical framework that can be used for empirical studies. Although my current scientific approach is theoretical, I have done empirical research in the past, in topics also related to evolutionary biology and behaviour.
